Gregoire Calegari graduated from St. Patrick’s College with a BA in philosophy, and from UCLA with an MBA. He worked for two years as a senior accountant for Deloitte & Touche, before joining his father’s firm in 1965.
One of Greg’s fortes is his ability to develop sophisticated tax deferred retirement plans for closely held corporations and their owners. Greg works closely with his clients’ attorneys and other business advisors as part of an integrated team.
In working with his clients, Greg follows a proactive philosophy; it’s an excellent way, he feels, to make good use of the firm’s outstanding resources. Greg recalls a client who was anxious to support a local secondary school by making a large charitable gift of low-basis securities. Greg and his team at Calegari & Morris introduced this client to a charitable gift fund operated by a major financial institution. His client could then make a gift to the “fund,” which would disperse the money to the school over several years. By thinking ahead, Greg created a win-win situation: the client met his gifting objectives while generating a large current and useful tax deduction.
